About
Resurrection Band is an influential group in the Christian rock scene, originating from the Jesus People USA movement in the early 1970s. Hailing from the West Coast, the band consists of Glenn Kaiser (vocals), Wendi Kaiser (vocals), Stu Heiss (guitar, keyboards), Roy Montroy (bass), and John Herrin (drums). Known for their pioneering blend of Christian rock, alternative rock, metal, and punk, Resurrection Band, also referred to as "Rez," broke ground with their 1974 debut Music to Raise the Dead. Throughout their prolific career, they released numerous albums, including Awaiting Your Reply and Silence Screams, and even founded their own label, Grrr Records.
How to Sound Like Resurrection Band
Resurrection Band's sound is characterized by a raw, energetic intensity that fuses the aggression of punk with the heaviness of metal, underpinned by a spiritual message. Their music features distorted guitar riffs and driving rhythms, often achieved through the use of high-gain amplifiers and overdrive pedals to create a gritty, punchy tone. Vocally, Glenn and Wendi Kaiser's powerful performances add a dynamic range, often blending melodic lines with impassioned shouts. The bass provides a solid, rhythmic foundation, complementing the tight, propulsive drumming that propels their tracks forward. For musicians seeking to capture their sound, focusing on layered guitar effects, robust rhythm sections, and emotionally charged vocal delivery would be essential.
