About

Rockmelons is an Australian musical group known for their eclectic blend of funk, soul, and hip-hop, which played a pivotal role in transforming the traditional Australian rock scene in the late '80s and early '90s. The band was founded by Ray Medhurst and included members Jonathon "Jonno" Jones and Byron Jones. The group expanded its lineup with keyboardist Vinnie Dale and a rotating cast of vocalists, such as Peter Blakeley, John Kenny, Sandi Chick, and Wendy Matthews. The Rockmelons are noted for their vibrant live performances, which often featured over ten musicians on stage, and for their successful albums like Tales of the City and Form 1 Planet.

How to Sound Like Rockmelons

Rockmelons' sound is characterized by its dynamic and groove-laden rhythms, merging funky bass lines and syncopated drum patterns with smooth, soulful vocals. Their music often showcases rich, layered arrangements that incorporate elements of soulful brass sections and lush keyboard textures. Achieving their sound involves focusing on tight, groovy instrumentation and polished vocal harmonies. Utilizing analog synthesizers and vintage drum machines can help replicate their warm, retro vibe, while compression and reverb are crucial in achieving the polished, radio-ready finish that defines their most popular tracks.
