About

Seam is an indie rock band originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The group was founded by Sooyoung Park (vocals, guitar) and Lexi Mitchell (bass), both formerly of Bitch Magnet, along with Mac McCaughan (drums) from Superchunk. After their debut album, Headsparks, McCaughan departed, and the band relocated to Chicago. The lineup evolved over time, with notable members including Bob Rising (drums) and Craig White (guitar), and later Chris Manfrin (drums), William Shin (bass), and Reg Shrader (guitar). Seam is recognized for their contributions to indie rock, noise rock, slowcore, and shoegaze, blending slow, melodic structures with emotionally charged vocals.

How to Sound Like Seam

Seam's sound is characterized by its melancholic, textured layers that bridge the gap between indie rock and shoegaze. Their music often features rich, distorted guitar tones, which are both gritty and atmospheric, achieved through effects like the Pro Co RAT for distortion. The use of vintage tube amplifiers, such as the Fender 'Black Panel' Twin Reverb, complements their expansive soundscapes by adding a warm, analog quality. Seam's arrangements frequently prioritize melodic bass lines and understated drumming, creating an immersive listening experience that is both introspective and sonically dynamic.
