Shobaleader One Members, Gear & Sound

Shobaleader One is a boundary-pushing electronic ensemble led by the legendary IDM artist Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson). Originating in 2009, this enigmatic group features members known only as Strobe Nazard (keyboards), Arg Nution (guitar), and Company Laser (drums), alongside Jenkinson on bass and vocals. Their music transcends categorization, weaving through genres such as electronica, nu jazz, drill and bass, and IDM. Shobaleader One's sonic experimentation is showcased in their debut album d'Demonstrator and their live album Elektrac, which reimagine Squarepusher's iconic back catalog.

Shobaleader One's sound is a captivating blend of futuristic grooves and intricate rhythms, reminiscent of a digital jazz ensemble. Their music is characterized by polyrhythmic textures and dense harmonic structures, creating an atmosphere that is both experimental and immersive. Squarepusher’s use of the Roland TB-303 brings a classic acid bassline to the mix, while the Eventide DSP4000 UltraHarmonizer adds layers of complex effects and pitch-shifting, enhancing their sonic palette.
