About

Snakadaktal was an Australian indie pop band recognized for their ethereal blend of dream pop, shoegaze, and chillwave elements. Formed in Melbourne in 2010, the group consisted of Phoebe Cockburn (vocals, synthesizers), Sean Heathcliff (vocals, guitar, synthesizers), Joseph Clough (guitar), Jarrah McCarty-Smith (bass), and Barna Nemeth (drums). Their music, characterized by boy-girl vocals and lush, atmospheric soundscapes, drew inspiration from the minimalist pop of bands like The xx, while also embracing the vibrant, danceable energy of Empire of the Sun. Despite their relatively short-lived career, Snakadaktal left a lasting impression with their self-titled EP and the album Sleep in the Water.

How to Sound Like Snakadaktal

Snakadaktal's soundscape is a tapestry woven with shimmering synth lines, ambient guitar textures, and lush vocal harmonies. Their sonic character is dreamy and immersive, often utilizing reverb and delay effects to create expansive, otherworldly atmospheres. The guitars typically employ a clean, yet richly layered tone, while the synthesizers add a glistening layer of depth to their compositions. To emulate their sound, musicians might explore analog delay pedals and reverb units to achieve the same sense of depth and space. The rhythm section, comprising warm bass lines and dynamic drumming, maintains a groove that balances the ethereal qualities with an underlying danceability, ensuring the music remains both introspective and engaging.
