About
Spacehog is an alternative rock band that emerged from the vibrant music scene of New York City in 1993. The group consists of Royston Langdon (vocals, bass), Antony Langdon (guitar), Richard Steel (guitar), and Jonny Cragg (drums). Known for their eclectic mix of glam rock, pop rock, and alternative influences, Spacehog's sound is reminiscent of legendary acts like David Bowie and T. Rex. They gained widespread attention with their debut album Resident Alien, featuring the hit single "In the Meantime," which topped rock charts across the globe.
How to Sound Like Spacehog
Spacehog's sonic identity is a dynamic blend of wall-of-sound guitar riffs and soaring vocal melodies, creating a rich tapestry that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Their music often features distorted guitars with a glam rock flair, a style that can be achieved using instruments like the Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, favored by Antony Langdon. Royston Langdon's use of the Rickenbacker 4001 bass contributes a melodic yet powerful low end, complementing the shimmering harmonics of the guitars. The rhythm section, driven by Jonny Cragg's energetic drumming, provides a robust backbone that gives Spacehog their distinctive, larger-than-life sound. To emulate their vibe, musicians should focus on achieving a balance between the raw energy of rock and the polished allure of glam.
