About
SPC ECO is a London-based group that delves into the sonic realms of shoegaze, dream pop, and nu gaze, known for their atmospheric and effects-laden soundscapes. The project was initiated by Dean Garcia, former guitarist of the band Curve, and his daughter Rose Berlin, who provides ethereal and sensuous vocals. Together, they craft a unique blend of guitar-driven melodies and electronic textures, occasionally joined by guest musicians such as renowned producer Alan Moulder. Since their inception in 2007, SPC ECO has been prolific in producing their material at their ELaB Studios, maintaining a strong independent ethos with self-releases that explore themes of darkness and introspection.
How to Sound Like SPC ECO
SPC ECO's music is characterized by its rich, ambient textures and lush, enveloping soundscapes, which are crafted through a combination of traditional and electronic elements. The sound is both dreamy and immersive, with guitars often drenched in reverb and delay effects, reminiscent of classic shoegaze tones but with a modern twist. Dean Garcia’s use of gear like the Marshall JCM800 2204 amplifier head and Zoom 9002 multi-effects pedal helps achieve these expansive sonic layers. Meanwhile, the integration of synthesizers, such as the ARP Odyssey Rev3, adds a textural complexity that complements Rose Berlin's haunting vocals, creating a sound that is both introspective and evocative. The result is a seamless fusion of analog warmth and digital precision, inviting listeners into a world of melancholic beauty and sonic depth.
