Steel Train is an American rock band rooted in the vibrant musical tapestry of New York City. Formed in 1999, the band emerged as a busking duo by Scott Irby-Ranniar (vocals) and Jack Antonoff (guitar), before expanding to include Matthew Goldman (guitar), Evan Winiker (bass), and Matthias Gruber (drums). Known for their unique blend of indie rock, folk rock, classic rock, and dreamo, Steel Train has drawn comparisons to Southern rock revivalists like My Morning Jacket and Kings of Leon. Their releases, such as the debut EP For You My Dear and the full-length album Twilight Tales from the Prairies of the Sun, highlight the group's ability to channel the hoary sounds of '70s rock with a post-punk flair.
