Steely & Clevie are a seminal Jamaican duo known for their influential contributions to the genres of Reggae, Dancehall, Lovers Rock, and Roots Reggae. Formed by Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson (keyboards, drum machines) and Cleveland 'Clevie' Browne (drums, percussion, programming), the pair revolutionized the sound of Jamaican music from the mid-1980s onward. Both musicians had rich careers prior to joining forces, with Steely being part of the Black Roots Players and Roots Radics Band, while Clevie played in The In-Crowd and The Studio One Band. Their collaboration at Jammy's studio led to groundbreaking productions that became templates for genres like Dancehall and Reggaeton, with iconic riddims such as Admiral Bailey's "Punany" and the "Poco Man Jam".
