About
Stoney Point is an experimental rock project spearheaded by Joseph Johnson, whose visionary songwriting anchors the group's dynamic sound. Founded in 2017, Stoney Point is known for its eclectic fusion of post-rock, noise pop, and neo-psychedelia, drawing inspiration from seminal acts like Slowdive and Duster. The live ensemble includes Isaac Fladung, Guy Grengs, and Tyler Ramirez, with the latter contributing distinctive guitar tones that shape their sonic identity. Although Joseph Johnson remains the creative core, the band's lineup and sound continue to evolve, defying easy categorization and inviting listeners into their richly textured musical landscape.
How to Sound Like Stoney Point
Stoney Point's sound is characterized by its lo-fi textures and melodic nuance, oscillating between ambient drones and psychedelic flourishes. The band's music often features stripped-down rhythm guitar paired with psychedelic, plucky lead lines, creating a soundscape that is both ethereal and intricately layered. To achieve this, Tyler Ramirez employs effects such as the MXR M75 Super Badass Distortion and Way Huge Smalls Supa Lead Overdrive Pedal, infusing their compositions with a gritty yet expansive quality. The integration of modal interchange in Johnson’s songwriting adds an element of harmonic unpredictability, while the use of reverb and delay pedals like the JHS 3 Series Reverb and Boss DD-8 Digital Delay enhances the band's ability to craft immersive sonic environments.
