About
Streetheart is a Canadian rock band renowned for their vibrant blend of classic rock and album rock. Originating in 1975, the group was initially formed by Ken Shields (vocals), Daryl Gutheil (keyboards), and Kim Sinnaeve (bass), later joined by Paul Dean (guitar) and Matt Frenette (drums) in 1977. This lineup change heralded the band's transformation into Streetheart, a name under which they released several influential albums, including Meanwhile Back in Paris and Under Heaven Over Hell. Despite line-up changes, Streetheart's music remains a testament to the energetic and anthemic rock sound that characterized their era.
How to Sound Like Streetheart
Streetheart's sonic identity is defined by energetic and melodic guitar-driven rock, characterized by both polished and gritty textures. Their sound often combines the raw power of classic rock riffs with the layered dynamics of album rock. Paul Dean's guitar work, using instruments like the Odyssey Guitars Custom and Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS, delivers powerful melodies that cut through the mix with clarity. Amplifiers such as the Hiwatt DR504 Custom 50 Head and Marshall JCM900 4100 provide a robust, tube-driven warmth that complements the band's dynamic range. Effects like the Roland RE-301 Chorus Echo add depth and modulation, enhancing their sound's vibrancy while maintaining its rock-solid foundation.
