About
The Aggrolites are a dynamic fusion of reggae, ska punk, and rocksteady, hailing from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2002, the band originally came together to back Jamaican legend Derrick Morgan for a one-off performance. The lineup features Jesse Wagner (vocals, lead guitar), Brian Dixon (rhythm guitar), Roger Rivas (organ), J. Bonner (bass), and Korey Horn (drums). Over the years, they have become a staple in the West Coast ska and reggae scene, earning recognition for their energetic performances and authentic sound that pays homage to the classic eras of ska and reggae.
How to Sound Like The Aggrolites
The Aggrolites' sound is a gritty and soulful blend of vintage reggae tones and punk energy. Their music is characterized by raw, rhythmic guitar riffs and funky organ melodies, creating a vibrant texture that is both nostalgic and invigorating. The absence of a horn section is cleverly offset by Rivas' commanding organ presence, delivering a sound that is both full-bodied and infectious. Wagner’s guitar work often employs Gretsch guitars, which, combined with vintage amplifiers, produces a warm yet punchy tone. The rhythm section, grounded by Bonner’s bass and Horn’s dynamic drumming, adds a tight, driving force that is unmistakably ska. For musicians looking to capture the essence of The Aggrolites, focusing on the interplay between rhythmic guitar and organ, along with a raw, live energy, is key.
