Hailing from Kansas City, MO, the group was co-founded by Ian Byrne (vocals, percussion), originally from County Wicklow, Ireland, alongside American musicians Norm Dahlor (bass, banjo, guitar, vocals), Brent Hoad (violin, mandolin, keyboards, vocals), Steve Phillips (guitar, mandolin, vocals), and Brett Gibson (accordion). The lineup expanded with the addition of Tommy Sutherland (drums, percussion) and later Joe Miquelon (keyboards, saxophone).
