About

The Like is an indie rock band originating from Los Angeles, formed in 2001 when its members were still in their teens. The group initially comprised Z. Berg (vocals), Charlotte Froom (bass), and Tennessee Thomas (drums). Over time, the lineup evolved to include Laena Geronimo (bass) and Annie Monroe (organ), reflecting the band's dynamic nature. Their music, initially influenced by bands such as The Sundays, Throwing Muses, and The Pretenders, has evolved from punk-pop to incorporate elements of 1960s garage rock and girl group sounds, particularly evident in their second album, Release Me.

How to Sound Like The Like

To capture The Like's sound, focus on achieving a retro-inspired tone with modern indie rock sensibilities. Their music often features clean, jangly guitar riffs and melodic bass lines that draw on the bright, energetic characteristics of 1960s garage rock. Employing analog effects like reverb and delay pedals can add depth and texture to the guitar tones, while maintaining a crisp, rhythmic foundation. The incorporation of an organ brings a vintage feel, complementing the guitars and enriching the harmonic layers. Drums should emphasize a tight, punchy sound, enhancing the groove without overpowering the mix. Overall, the sound is melodic and rhythmic, with an emphasis on creating an engaging, nostalgic vibe that pays homage to their musical influences while staying fresh and contemporary.
