About

Phases is an American indie pop band hailing from Los Angeles, characterized by their vibrant, dance-friendly sound infused with '80s new wave influences. Originally formed in 2008 as a side project named JJAMZ, the group evolved into a full-time endeavor with the current lineup comprising of Z. Berg (vocals), Alex Greenwald (vocals, guitar), Jason Boesel (drums), and Michael Runion (bass). Phases' music elegantly bridges the gap between catchy pop melodies and retro-inspired electronic beats, delivering an infectious blend of indie poptimism.

How to Sound Like Phases

Phases' sound is a colorful tapestry of melodic synth lines and rhythmic guitar riffs, creating an effervescent and danceable atmosphere. Their use of analog synthesizers, such as the Moog Memorymoog, enriches their tracks with warm, vintage textures, while the guitars often carry a bright, jangly quality. The crystalline production is further enhanced by effects like the Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, which adds a shimmering dimension to their sound, making it both nostalgic and fresh. This synthesis of retro and modern elements results in a soundscape that is both energetic and inviting, perfect for capturing the spirit of indie pop with a nod to the past.
