The Music Machine was a pioneering American rock band, originating from Los Angeles, California, and active primarily in the mid-1960s. They are best known for their innovative blend of psychedelic rock, garage rock, acid rock, and proto-punk. The band was fronted by the charismatic Sean Bonniwell (vocals, guitar), whose intense lyrics and distinctive, dark vision set the tone for the group. The lineup also included Keith Olsen (bass), Ron Edgar (drums), Doug Rhodes (organ, piano), and Mark Landon (guitar). Their sound was characterized by a blend of wiry psychedelic guitar lines and the haunting, minor-key melodies of Rhodes' Farfisa organ, with their track "Talk Talk" being a standout hit.

The Music Machine's sonic character is marked by its raw, aggressive energy and ominous, minor-key melodies. Their music often features fuzzy, distorted guitar tones that create a gritty, uncompromising soundscape. This was partially achieved with Bonniwell's use of the Guild Starfire III Hollowbody Guitar, which added a rich, resonant quality to their recordings. The eerie, atmospheric layers introduced by the Howard Combo Organ, played by Rhodes, imbued their compositions with a haunting depth. Coupled with Olsen's rhythmic bass lines on the 1965 EKO 995 Violin Bass, The Music Machine crafted a sound that was both rhythmically tight and texturally complex, embodying the rebellious spirit of the '60s underground music scene.
