About

The Third Bardo was a short-lived yet influential American band that emerged from New York City in the mid-1960s. Known for their unique blend of psychedelic rock, garage rock, acid rock, and proto-punk, the group consisted of Jeff Monn (vocals), Ricky Goldklang (guitar), Damien Kelly (guitar), Richy Seslowe (bass), and Bruce Ginsberg (drums). Their music, particularly the single "I'm Five Years Ahead of My Time," encapsulated the era's experimental spirit, intertwining Eastern influences with the raw energy of garage rock. Despite their brief existence and limited discography, The Third Bardo left a lasting imprint on the psychedelic and garage rock genres.

How to Sound Like The Third Bardo

The Third Bardo’s sound is characterized by a raw, gritty texture, achieved through raucous guitar riffs layered with eerie organ melodies. Their music often features minor keys with Eastern influences, creating a mysterious and otherworldly atmosphere. To emulate their style, musicians might explore the use of fuzz pedals to achieve that gritty, overdriven guitar tone, complemented by vintage tube amps for warmth and depth. The band's energetic yet ominous vibe is further enhanced by dynamic drumming and punchy bass lines, driving the music with a rhythmic intensity. Incorporating psychedelic effects like phaser and analog delay can add to the swirling, hallucinatory quality reminiscent of their recordings.
