About
The Rides are a dynamic blues-rock ensemble born from the collaboration of iconic musicians Stephen Stills, Barry Goldberg, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Formed as a modern homage to the classic blues sound, the group blends the storied legacy of Stills, known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Goldberg, a founding member of Electric Flag, with Shepherd's contemporary guitar prowess. Together, they create a rich tapestry of blues and modern blues rock, harking back to the golden era of the genre while infusing it with a refreshing modern twist.
How to Sound Like The Rides
The Rides deliver a sound that is both gritty and soulful, characterized by raw, emotive guitar work and deep blues undercurrents. Their sonic character leans into the dirty and expressive, with Shepherd's guitar often taking center stage, wielding a Fender Custom Shop Jimi Hendrix Monterey Pop Stratocaster to channel fiery riffs and solos. The use of effects like the B.K. Butler 911 Tube Driver adds a layer of driven warmth and grit, while the MXR M68 Uni-Vibe contributes to the swirling, psychedelic textures that color their blues rock palette. This combination of traditional and innovative elements creates a powerful and evocative soundscape, resonating with both classic blues aficionados and modern rock enthusiasts alike.
