About
Thrice is an influential American rock band originating from Irvine, California, formed in 1998. The group consists of Dustin Kensrue (vocals, guitar), Teppei Teranishi (guitar, keyboards), Eddie Breckenridge (bass), and Riley Breckenridge (drums). Renowned for their dynamic blend of alternative rock, emo, screamo, post-hardcore, indie rock, and melodic hardcore, Thrice has continually evolved their sound throughout their career, captivating audiences with their emotional depth and technical proficiency.
How to Sound Like Thrice
Thrice's sonic landscape is characterized by its aggressive yet melodic tones and emotionally charged atmospheres. The interplay between Kensrue's gritty vocals and the intricate guitar work of Teranishi creates a sound that's both raw and expansive. Their music often features layered, overdriven guitar riffs that are complemented by Teranishi's use of effects like the Walrus Audio Julia for added depth and modulation. Kensrue's guitar tone, shaped through the Fender 'Silverface' Vibrolux Reverb, brings a vintage warmth to their harder-edged sound. Bassist Eddie Breckenridge's use of the Gibson Grabber provides a powerful low-end presence, while Riley Breckenridge's drumming delivers dynamic, rhythmic complexity. Together, these elements craft a powerful and emotive soundscape that’s distinctly Thrice.
