About
Toad is a Swiss rock band that emerged in the early 1970s, known for blending psychedelic rock, acid rock, hard rock, stoner rock, and psychedelic blues-rock into their sound. The band primarily consists of Vittorio "Vic" Vergeat (guitar/vocals), Werner Fröhlich (bass), and Cosimo Lampis (drums). Throughout their career, they've occasionally collaborated with additional vocalists, most notably Bens Jaeger, who contributed to their debut album. Toad's influence extended beyond Switzerland, paving the way for the Swiss metal movement in the 1980s with bands like Krokus and Celtic Frost. Their early work, including their debut single "Stay" and live album Open Fire: Live in Basel 1972, helped cement their legacy in the European rock scene.
How to Sound Like Toad
Toad's sound is characterized by heavy, raw guitar riffs and a dynamic rhythm section, combining the grit of hard rock with the expansive textures of psychedelic music. Their sonic palette often leans towards a dirty, aggressive vibe with a touch of the blues. The use of distortion and fuzz effects pedals, such as the Pro Co TurboRAT and Twinote Guitar Pedal Pi FUZZ, injects a gritty edge to their guitar tones, while the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Boy delay pedal adds depth and a slightly trippy atmosphere. Their live performances capture a raw energy, with a driving bass and powerful drumming that underpin Vergeat's fiery guitar work, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and timeless.
