Ultimate Keystrokes Controller

The DAW controller market is crowded with fancy colourful led illuminated devices that have some form of software driven control system. The shuttlepro is nothing like that and that's actually relief because it is simply awesome. Rarely have I seen such a handy tool which can not only control your DAW but any application you run on your mac of pc. This device can send keystrokes or key combinations to any application that has the operating systems focus. The software that comes with the shuttle let's you program those keystrokes to specific applications. It is also possible to repeat keystrokes or let the device hold them for a period of time. So how does this translate to your DAW workflow? An example, you can map the inner shuttle ring to zoom in or out in your arrangement depending on left or right movement. The outer ring could be set to scrub forward or backward through your timeline. The buttons can be programmed to functions like "alt" "ctrl" and "shift" or combinations. You could program your most used commands to the shuttlepro so you don't have to remember all those keyboard shortcuts or make impossible movements on your regular keyboard. The top 9 buttons can be labeled to make it more easy to remember your programmed functions. The only negative point I could find about this device is the software. It could be a little easier to program. Other then that it has improved my workflow tremendously and could ergonomically improve your working environment too. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for something to improve your workflow.

Limiting without limits

Like any other fabfilter plugin the first thing that stands out is the beautiful user interface. The visuals in this plugin are so helpful, especially if you're not a limiting expert you can see very clearly what is happening to your audio signal. Not going into all the different functions of this plugin i'm going to say this limiter can sound very transparant and can go very loud without clipping. Although it doesn't have the loudness comparison function the Slate Digital FG-X which is fantastic the fabfilter limiter has my vote. I tried the sonnox limiter, fg-x and some of the well known UAD plugs but the fantastic interface and clean sound make this my go to limiter.

Handy little free tool

Steve Dude developed this very handy tool by special demand. This fx plugin works just like the dimension expander effect from Native Instruments Massive. Which in essence is two very short delays with different different delay times which are modulated very fast. This creates a sense of space in your audio material. I would like to compare it with the early reflections of a reverb without the reverb tail. It widens your sound without cluttering your mix with reverb. One thing you should be aware of when using this effect is that it's not mono compatible. Meaning the effect will totally disappear when the stereo signal is summed to mono. Other than that this can be very useful to add a short sense of space or dimension to your sounds. Xfer Records has this cool little tool as a free download on their website. And it's available as 64bit too! Definitely check it out!

Very useful tool for referencing

Great tool to slap on your master bus to check how your mixes compare to commercial ones. It's fast easy and one of a kind!

Best buy reverb!

Imagine a high quality lexicon reverb but for less than a fifth of the price. This plugin sounds just awesome, it's great on vocals, leads and pretty much anything you throw at it. I personally don't use it for shorter verbs and think it sounds best doing lush big sounding halls. The GUI maybe a little simple and flat but don't let that turn you off, just check it out and you'll never look back.

Underrated Distortion Unit

Very little people I know use this unit and it's a shame. This is a very versatile little distortion box. I use the lo-fi section extensively to add some nice grit and high frequency content to my sounds. The possibility to use filtering pre and post distortion in the form of EQ and high and lowpass filters is awesome. Changing the routing is a little bit confusing sometimes with all the options. The one thing I don't like very much is the widen function. It uses some sort of very fast panning algorithm to make sounds appear wider but can cause mono compatibility problems. So be aware when using this function. The gapper distortion algorithm is one I also use very often to add some nice distortion to hardstyle kicks. I've only touched the surface of this little beauty, so be sure to check it out if you're in to some creative and different distortion. I definitely recommend it.

Best workhorse EQ on the planet

Like the title says, simply the best EQ on the planet. Why? It is highly flexibel, has awesome workflow and sounds awesome. And on top of that it is beautiful to look at. My go to EQ everyday. I wouldn't use it for coloring because it is very transparant. But there's plenty of other coloring EQ's on the market today.
