Founded by luthier Justin Abernethy and based in Guadalupe, California, Abernethy Guitars is a one-man boutique operation specializing in handcrafted electric guitars and basses. Justin Abernethy brings over 25 years of guitar-building experience to the shop, having apprenticed under Gene Baker at Baker Guitars and held positions at Ernie Ball Music Man, National Reso-Phonic, Fine Tuned Instruments, and Premier Builders Guild before launching his own brand.

Abernethy's instruments are known for blending offset body shapes with vintage aesthetics and modern playability. The flagship Sonic Empress is a 25.5-inch-scale offset guitar that draws on classic designs while incorporating contemporary refinements, and is also available in a THC variant. Other models include the Steed, a hybrid design combining SG and Mustang elements, and the All Access, which features a more futuristic body shape. Abernethy also produces short-scale basses inspired by Jazz Bass and Jaguar aesthetics. Each instrument is built individually using carefully selected materials — often including reclaimed wood — and features meticulous relic finishing techniques.
