Alain Mazaud is a French master luthier based in Montchaton, Normandy, who builds handcrafted stringed instruments under the workshop name Mazaud Luthier. Trained from his late teens in flamenco and Renaissance instrument making, he apprenticed with Maurice Dupont in the early 1990s before opening his own atelier. He is best known for Selmer-style gypsy jazz guitars, including the Vieux Paris, Modèle 36, Modèle 46, and La Strada, offered with 14- or 12-fret necks and small or large soundholes (petite bouche / grande bouche).
Beyond Selmer-pattern guitars, his catalog spans archtop jazz guitars, violes de gambe, violes d'amour, bass viols, Renaissance lutes, ouds, and violins, alongside restoration work on both modern and historical instruments. The Vieux Paris is positioned as his flagship gypsy jazz model, valued for vintage aesthetics paired with a bright, projecting voice.
Mazaud's instruments are made to order in small numbers and have found their way into the hands of gypsy jazz players in Europe and North America, contributing to his reputation within the Manouche guitar community.
