Alpher Instruments is a boutique guitar and bass builder based in Yorkshire, UK, co-founded and co-run by Alex Wood and Chris Dobson. The pair began prototyping in a small room in the World Heritage town of Saltaire before relocating the workshop to converted stables in the village of Sutton, where every instrument is built by hand to order.

The company's builds are defined by one-piece necks with a true bolt-on joint and solid brass fixed bridges, a combination the builders refer to as the 'Alpher sound.' Basses are offered in the Mako, Hammerhead, Cobia and Opah shapes, with flagship Elite, Prime and Prime V2 specifications, alongside more accessibly priced Mako Classic and Vector set models. The range spans solid-body and semi-hollow electric guitars, baritones, and both active and passive basses, often finished in figured and exotic timbers that have become a visual hallmark of the brand.

Alpher runs an extensive bespoke program, tailoring specs to individual customers and drawing on components from third-party makers including Hipshot, Schaller, Nordstrand, East UK, Aguilar, Darkglass Electronics, Bareknuckle Pickups, Curtis Novak, Sunbear, TV Jones and Lollar. Instruments are sold direct through the company's own shop and through specialist dealers such as Andy Baxter Bass & Guitars in London.
