Aquila Corde Armoniche is an Italian string manufacturer based in Caldogno, near Vicenza, founded in 1991 by chemist and researcher Mimmo Peruffo. The company began with a focus on historically accurate gut strings for early-music instruments such as lutes, viols, baroque guitars, and harps, and continues to produce a wide catalog for historical performance.
In 1997 Peruffo developed Nylgut, a synthetic polymer designed to mimic the feel and acoustic properties of natural gut without the tuning instability. Nylgut became the company's signature material and helped establish Aquila as one of the most widely used string makers in the modern ukulele world. The line has since grown to include variants such as Red Series, B-Blacks, Sugar, Super Nylgut, and Bionylon, alongside sets for classical and flamenco guitar, oud, mandolin, charango, and double bass.
Beyond strings, Aquila also produces several proprietary small-scale instruments, including the Microguitar, Guitarkid, Basskid, and Short Bass-One. Aquila strings are factory-fitted on instruments from a number of ukulele brands and are stocked by specialist retailers worldwide.
Aquila has 7 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Ukulele Accessories, Strings, and Acoustic & Acoustic-Electric Basses. Their gear is featured by 2 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Pop, and Funk / Soul. Notable users include James Eller and Chad Roper.
