ASBA is a French drum manufacturer founded in 1927 in the Paris area by musician and inventor Alfred Boudard. The name is an acronym for Alfred et Simone Boudard Accessoires, referencing Alfred and his wife Simone. The company began by building music stands before moving into percussion, releasing its first snare drum, the Revolution, in 1948. Through the mid-twentieth century, ASBA developed all-metal drum kits, the Gigogne nesting kit, and the Caroline bass drum pedal, a design associated with jazz, pop, and rock drummers of the era. The original manufacture closed in 1983.
The brand was revived in 2016 by Guillaume Pornet in cooperation with the Boudard family, with manufacturing based in France. The contemporary lineup includes the Rive Gauche and Revelation premium ranges, offered in maple or mahogany shells, along with the mid-tier Simone series in six-ply American maple. ASBA also produces metal shell drums and limited-edition pieces, including the ASBADABOOM designed with Jean Charles de Castelbajac. A custom shop allows configuration of shells, finishes, and hardware.
ASBA's reintroduced designs incorporate a patent-pending Top Lug tuning system and a teaching aid called StickEasy. Historically, drums and pedals bearing the ASBA name were used by players such as Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Albert Heath, and Mitch Mitchell.
