Azzam Bells is a boutique instrument workshop based in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, founded by Alessandro "Mazza" Artigiani. The lab designs and hand-builds unconventional electro-acoustic instruments aimed at experimental musicians, sound designers, and composers working in ambient, noise, cinematic, and meditative music.
The catalog centers on two families of instruments. The MPA series — including the MPA 019 and MPA 023 — evolves from the daxophone concept, functioning as friction and percussion instruments fitted with internal contact microphones and a jack output for routing into effects, mixers, and amplifiers. The other signature line is the Stone Harp, a lithophone carved from Italian marbles such as Botticino and Verde Guatemala, amplified via contact mics for use in meditative sessions and experimental performance. Smaller sculptural lithophones like the Piramyd extend the same approach.
Instruments are produced in small batches and sold directly through the Azzam Bells site as well as via Reverb and Etsy, with additional distribution through specialty shops such as Sound of You. The brand's work sits at the intersection of instrument making, sound sculpture, and sound design.
