Boaz Guitars is the work of Israeli-American luthier Boaz Elkayam, who built his first guitar at age 12 in a family of violin makers. After military service, Elkayam spent twelve years traveling across Europe, South America, and Central America, apprenticing with rural guitar makers and absorbing centuries-old building techniques. He has been making guitars in Chatsworth, California since 1985 and spent several years (1998–2002) collaborating with Professor Michael Kasha at Florida State University's Acoustical Physics Research Laboratory, applying mathematical acoustic theories to his instrument designs. His handcrafted classical and acoustic guitars — including Concert Classical, Baroque, and Renaissance models built from premium tonewoods like Brazilian rosewood and cedar — have earned a devoted following among serious classical players, with notable clients including guitarists Liona Boyd and Kurt Rodarmer.

Elkayam's more recent innovation is the Boaz One, a modular electric guitar that uses a polycarbonate shell with a cast glass-powder-and-epoxy core set in a steel frame. The Boaz One features a cassette-based pickup system (using Kent Armstrong pickups) that allows players to swap pickup modules and even guitar bodies in seconds without tools, offering dozens of tonal combinations from a single instrument. The design eliminates dependence on scarce tonewoods and aims to make a professional-quality electric guitar accessible at a lower price point. Originally funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $450,000, the Boaz One represents a departure from traditional lutherie toward modular, sustainable guitar design.
