Cactus Ampworks is a family-run builder of hand-wired tube guitar amplifiers based in Arizona, founded by Chris Gebhart in June 2006. Gebhart, a longtime guitar player and audio engineer who previously worked as a guitar technician for Michael Schenker (Scorpions, UFO, MSG), started the company to produce straightforward, vintage-influenced circuits made to order in small numbers. Amps are built with point-to-point hand wiring in solid poplar cabinets and loaded with Jensen loudspeakers.
The lineup centers on low- to mid-wattage tube designs aimed at country, blues, and rock players. Notable models include the 8-watt Tumbleweed, the 8-watt Jalapeno combo, the 25-watt Mirage (offered as both head and combo), the 35-watt Vortex AZ-35 head, and the Kingman 2x10 35-watt combo. The company also builds the Stage Coach Audio Brake attenuator and the battery-powered Keg Blaster practice amp.
The shop operates as a mom-and-pop build-to-order business, with a deposit required to start each build and multi-week lead times typical for boutique amp makers. Cactus Ampworks emphasizes simplicity over digital features, presenting itself as a small-batch alternative to mass-produced tube amplifiers.
