Cameltone Electronics is a small, hand-built guitar effects operation based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded by Andrew "Andy" Wilson. The shop focuses on a tight catalog of boutique distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedals, along with hand-assembled instrument and recording cables. Each unit is built to order out of Philadelphia, with lead times typical of a single-builder brand rather than a large manufacturer.
The company's best-known product is the Nard, a FET-based distortion pedal designed to push an amp into gainy territory while preserving the natural character of the instrument and amplifier. It is frequently marketed with a nod to early-'90s alternative rock tones, particularly the "blue album" Weezer sound, and has developed a cult following among indie and alt-rock players. Cameltone's fuzz offering, the Freak Scene, began as an attempt to recreate J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.'s well-documented modified Big Muff.
Beyond pedals, Cameltone has also built custom cable runs for other manufacturers, including CV interface cables produced for Chase Bliss Audio. Pedals are sold direct through the brand's Big Cartel storefront and on the secondary market via Reverb, where they trade among players drawn to the 90s-leaning, mid-gain territory the brand specializes in.
Cameltone has 2 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Fuzz Effects Pedals and Overdrive Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 4 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Electronic, and Hip Hop. Notable users include Nick Reinhart, Jake Ewald, and Barry Johnson.
