Codanova was a French boutique manufacturer of MIDI controllers that operated from 2004 to 2012. Based in France and built by a small team aimed at VJs and electronic musicians, the company produced tactile MIDI hardware under its VMX line, which became its signature product family.
The VMX series included the VMX Studio (2004), VMX VJ (2006), VMX Studio 2 (2007), the VMX Activ8 prototype (2010), and the compact VMX v64 nanocontrollers (2011). Codanova's larger controllers were recognizable for their layouts combining a large central jog wheel with button grids, faders, and knobs — a design oriented toward live visual performance as much as music production. The company ceased operations in late 2012, and its controllers now circulate primarily on the used market.
