CTS is an American electronics manufacturer founded in 1896 in Chicago as Chicago Telephone Supply Company, later relocating to Elkhart, Indiana. Within the music world, the company is best known for its potentiometers, which have been a standard component in electric guitars for decades. The Model 450G in particular has become a fixture in guitar wiring, supplied as original equipment in instruments from builders such as Fender, Gibson, and PRS, and stocked by major parts retailers including StewMac, Allparts, and Philadelphia Luthier Tools.
CTS pots are typically offered in audio (logarithmic) taper, with 250K-ohm versions paired with single-coil pickups for a slightly warmer response and 500K-ohm versions used with humbuckers. The parts feature brass shafts and tighter resistance tolerances than economy alternatives, which has made them a common upgrade for players rewiring guitars and a default specification for boutique luthiers. Tube Amp Doctor has also collaborated with CTS to produce a higher-torque guitar pot variant aimed at the boutique market.
Beyond guitar electronics, the broader CTS Corporation manufactures switches, sensors, piezoelectric components, and actuators for the aerospace, automotive, industrial, and medical markets, with operations across North America, Europe, and Asia.
CTS has 3 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Guitar Potentiometers.
