Danmar Percussion Products was founded in 1970 by Frank DeVito, a Los Angeles session and touring drummer who had played with Frank Sinatra, Elvis, The Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher, The Monkees, Herb Alpert and the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Frustrated by commercially available drum parts, DeVito began making his own and eventually turned the designs into a small product line. The company is still based in the Los Angeles area, with its parts crafted by hand in California, and is distributed by Big Bang Distribution.

The brand is best known for its bass drum beaters, which come in an unusually wide range of materials and shapes — felt, hard wood, lambswool, plastic, cube and square heads, and double-bent shafts intended for double-pedal players. Other staples in the catalog include the Wicked Stick Holder (a four-pair stick holder that clamps to a cymbal or hi-hat stand) and Impact Pads, adhesive patches that protect bass drum heads at the beater contact point and, in their metal version, add click and attack to the kick sound. Danmar also offers castanets and assorted small percussion hardware.

Danmar's beaters have long had a reputation as a workhorse upgrade for stock pedals, and the company has produced signature models with drummers including Zoro, whose square felt and wood beaters are part of the standard line.
