Hippner Guitars is the one-person workshop of Darren Hippner, a classical guitar luthier who has been building full time since 1994. Based in Point Roberts, Washington — a small, isolated peninsula on the northwest coast of the state bordering Canada — Hippner is a fourth-generation woodworker who came to lutherie through an apprenticeship with a European-trained master nearby. Every instrument is handcrafted by Darren alone using primarily hand tools, and he has built over 700 guitars to date.

The shop's core output is nylon-string classical and flamenco guitars built to established historical patterns, including Torres, Hauser, Ramírez, Fleta, and Barbero models. Hippner also builds modern variants such as double-top and lattice-braced classicals, 8-string guitars, and his own Helion design. After establishing his classical and flamenco work, he expanded into steel-string acoustics, offering dreadnoughts, parlors, and 12-strings.

Hippner guitars are carried by specialist classical dealers such as Savage Classical Guitar, Chartwell Guitar, and RetroFret, and have a reputation among dealers for offering traditional fan-braced tone and playability at modest pricing relative to other handmade classical builders.
