David Rubio (born David Joseph Spinks, 1934–2000) was an English maker of stringed musical instruments whose workshops in Duns Tew, near Oxford, and later in Cambridge produced over a thousand instruments across a roughly forty-year career. Self-taught and originally a flamenco guitarist who adopted the nickname "Rubio" during his years in Spain, he built his reputation in the mid-1960s through a close collaboration with classical guitarist Julian Bream, whose instruments helped establish Rubio among the leading makers of his generation.

His output spanned classical and flamenco guitars, lutes, theorbos, vihuelas, citterns, harpsichords, and — in the later part of his career — violins, violas, and cellos. He developed a radically redesigned eight-string guitar with guitarist Paul Galbraith and contributed to acoustical research with Cambridge University scientists, including work published in Nature on the surface treatments used on Stradivari instruments. Cambridge University conferred an honorary degree on him in recognition of this work.

Rubio-built guitars and early instruments signed "David José Rubio" remain sought after on the vintage market, and the workshop tradition he established continued under apprentices and associates who trained with him, including makers who went on to their own careers in British lutherie.
