Dirtywave is a Los Angeles-based music hardware company founded by Timothy Lamb, known in the tracker and chiptune scenes as Trash80. The company's sole product line is the M8 Tracker, a portable battery-powered groovebox that combines tracker-style sequencing with synthesis and sample playback. Built around a Teensy microcontroller, the M8 draws direct inspiration from Little Sound DJ (LSDj), the Game Boy tracker Lamb developed earlier in his career.
The M8 Tracker pairs an 8-track sequencer with several sound engines — Wavsynth, Macrosynth, FM, and a sampler — along with built-in reverb, chorus, delay, and a limiter, all driven through a compact 2.8" IPS display and a small keypad. MIDI I/O and USB connectivity allow it to integrate with larger studio setups. The original Model:01 was followed by the Model:02, a hardware refresh that added USB-C and other quality-of-life improvements while preserving the firmware experience.
Dirtywave has cultivated a devoted following among portable-music makers, chipmusicians, and electronic producers who favor tracker workflows. The M8 firmware is closed-source, but Lamb also maintains the open-source m8c headless client, which lets the device be controlled via external screens and platforms including Raspberry Pi and desktop computers.
