Edge Sound Research is an audio technology company based in Riverside, California, founded in 2019 by UC Riverside students Ethan Castro and Valtteri Salomaki. The company emerged from research at UCR's Experimental Acoustics Research Studio (EARS), where Castro — who is hard of hearing — began developing a system that would let listeners feel sound across the full audio spectrum rather than only experience low-frequency rumble. The company's work centers on what it calls Embodied Sound, a patented approach that combines audible, tactile, and haptic output through a single transducer system.

Its flagship product is the ResonX Core, a transducer that turns physical surfaces — floors, walls, furniture, seating — into full-body speakers. The unit delivers tactility from 7Hz to 5kHz and an audible range from 80Hz to 17kHz, and is designed to be embedded into structures rather than placed as a traditional loudspeaker. The platform is built around three core patented technologies the company describes as the Virtual Sound Engine, Environmental Renderer, and Embodied Sound.

Edge Sound Research has worked on installations outside conventional consumer audio, including a pilot with NBA Launchpad at Sacramento's Golden 1 Center that integrated ResonX transducers into arena seating. Shure has taken a minority investment in the company, and the ResonX Core is distributed through retailers including Sweetwater.
