Experimental Noize is a Los Angeles-based pro-audio company founded by Frank Thomson, who previously worked alongside Keith Barr — the engineer behind MXR and Alesis Studio Electronics. The company is best known for the FV-1 effects DSP chip Thomson co-designed with Barr, which has gone on to power a large number of boutique reverb, delay, and modulation pedals from other manufacturers, and for its successor the FXCore, a programmable audio-effects DSP with on-chip FLASH for storing up to 16 programs.
Under its own brand, Experimental Noize manufactures effects pedals aimed at guitarists and keyboard players. The lineup includes the Aphazing, a phase shifter with selectable stage counts, four phasing modes, resonance, range, and high/low-pass filtering built around a 32-bit processor, and the SpinCycle, a rotary speaker emulator with controls for speed, acceleration, balance, and distance designed to model both rotors of a Leslie-style cabinet.
Alongside finished pedals, the company sells the FXCore DSP chip and an associated development board and in-circuit programmer, positioning itself as both a builder of consumer effects and a parts supplier for other pedal designers and DIY builders.
Experimental Noize has 2 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Phaser Effects Pedals and Univibe & Rotary Effects Pedals.
