Exponential Audio is a plugin developer founded in 2012 by Michael Carnes, who spent roughly 25 years as a principal engineer at Lexicon working on the company's hardware reverb products. The company was built around algorithmic reverb designed for music, broadcast, and post-production work, and quickly gained a reputation in professional mixing and film/TV sound communities for its dense, musical tails and deep parameter control.

The plugin catalog includes PhoenixVerb, R2, NIMBUS, R4, Excalibur (a multi-effect with delays, chorus, and modulation), and the surround-capable Stratus and Symphony lines, with 3D (immersive/Atmos) variants aimed at post workflows. The reverbs are known for fine-grained control over early reflections, tail shaping, warp, and chorus parameters, positioning them as alternatives to traditional hardware-style reverbs for scoring stages and dubbing suites.

iZotope acquired Exponential Audio in 2019, folding the reverb technology into its own product ecosystem and bringing Michael Carnes on as a research fellow. The Stratus and Symphony product lines continued under the iZotope umbrella.

Exponential Audio has 6 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Reverb Plugins, Multi-Effect Plugins, and FX Bundle Plugins.
