G. Houghton & Sons was a British stringed-instrument maker founded in 1888 by George Houghton at the Reliance Works on Heaton Street in Birmingham, England. The firm built its reputation on affordable banjos and zither-banjos originally branded "Reliance," and as the business expanded into a family operation it shifted much of its output to white-label production — supplying instruments to retailers and wholesalers who rebranded them under their own names. Stock-catalogue pieces were typically identified by a gold-embossed lion on the reverse with the initials G. H. & S.

The company produced a wide range of fretted instruments including tenor banjos, banjo-mandolins, banjo-ukuleles, and mandolins. House model names included the budget Melody-Jo line, along with Melody Uke, Melody Major, Melody Junior, Maxitone, Pageant, Silver Knight, and Marvel. These were sold both directly and through dealers across Britain and the Commonwealth during the banjo and ukulele booms of the early twentieth century.

The Birmingham factory closed in 1962 due to town-planning redevelopment and labour shortages, and George Houghton (son of the founder) relocated the remaining plant and a handful of key workers to Bexleyheath, Kent, where he continued making inexpensive banjos under the Dallas label for John E. Dallas & Sons Ltd. until his retirement in 1965.
