Gain Stage Effects is a one-person pedal operation based in Louisville, Kentucky, founded with the aim of rediscovering and reinventing classic fuzz circuits from the golden era of rock and roll. Building handmade pedals since 2017, the maker focuses on vintage-inspired germanium fuzz designs, sourcing and matching hard-to-find germanium transistors to capture the character of the original circuits.

Rather than producing exact clones, the builder digs through schematics for obscure 1970s fuzz units and adapts them with personal tweaks intended to give modern guitarists additional tonal flexibility. Pedals such as the Uber-Fuzz are built to order in small batches, typically with a two-to-three-week lead time, and sold through the brand's own site and its Reverb shop.
