GFM, short for Games From Mars, is a small audio plugin project by French DSP developer Guillaume Piolat, who also runs Auburn Sounds. The label produced a handful of free VST and Audio Unit effects and instruments for Windows and macOS during the late 2000s and 2010s, and the catalog is now hosted as legacy releases on the Auburn Sounds site.
The GFM lineup is built around three plugins: GFM Distort, a gritty digital distortion with 16x oversampling and a deliberately lo-fi, 90s-flavored character; GFM Koch, a percussive physical-modeling synthesizer aimed at sharp, punchy hits; and GFM Psypan, a binaural panner designed to push sounds outside the head for in-the-box mixing. All three are distributed as freeware.
GFM has a niche audience among bedroom producers and plugin collectors who follow free-VST blogs like KVR Audio, Bedroom Producers Blog, and Rekkerd. The project predates Piolat's commercial Auburn Sounds catalog (Graillon, Lens, Inner Pitch, etc.) and reflects the same hand-coded, low-level DSP approach he later formalized in the open-source Dplug framework.
GFM has 2 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Synth Plugins and Distortion Plugins.
