Glenn Cronkhite Custom Cases is a maker of high-end leather and Cordura gig bags founded by Glenn Cronkhite, a working drummer who is widely credited with originating the leather gig bag in the 1970s. Cronkhite first developed his designs in San Francisco as the founder of Reunion Blues, where his patterns for guitar, bass, banjo, and drum bags became the template for the category. After selling the Reunion Blues name, he retained the rights to his original designs and patents and continued building bags under his own name.
The brand's catalog covers a broad range of instruments — leather and Cordura gig bags for electric and acoustic guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos, cellos, harps, and sarodes, plus brass and woodwind cases for trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, saxophone, and contrabassoon. On the percussion side they make cymbal bags (in 20", 22", and 24" sizes), snare, tom, and bass drum bags, hardware bags, stick bags, and mallet bags. Bags are built with #10 YKK brass main zippers, solid brass rivets, T138 polyester thread, and US-made Cordura, with closed-cell foam padding throughout.
The company operates as a small custom shop and is run by Steve Kriesel, a trumpet player and the founder of Torpedo Bags, with Cronkhite himself acting as designer and adviser. The bags have a long-standing reputation among working musicians — particularly drummers and jazz/acoustic players — for being heirloom-grade pieces that hold up over decades of touring.
