Grampian Reproducers Ltd was a British audio manufacturer based in Middlesex, England that produced a range of professional audio equipment from the late 1950s through the 1970s. The company made valve PA amplifiers (such as the 562A), guitar combo amplifiers like the Vibromajor and Valencia, ribbon and dynamic microphones (including the GR2/H and DP4), and the Type 666 Ambiophonic Unit used by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
The company is best known for the Type 636 spring reverb, a germanium-transistor unit released in the 1960s that became a sought-after piece of recording and performance gear. Pete Townshend of The Who used the 636 on stage and in the studio in the mid-1960s, often exploiting its built-in preamp as an overdrive to fatten his guitar tone rather than for its reverb. The same unit became a defining sound of dub and reggae production through Jamaican engineers including King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry, and original 636s remain prized on the vintage market.
The Grampian name and trademark were revived in 2017–2018, with new-build Type 636 reverb units produced in the original style under the stewardship of Chris Hewitt and Rawson Sparfield Loudspeakers in the UK.
