Halifax is a vintage guitar brand name applied to imported instruments distributed primarily in North America during the 1960s and 1970s. Like many badge brands of that era, Halifax did not operate its own factory; instead the name was placed on guitars built by other manufacturers and sold through a distributor. Italian-made Halifax models from the 1960s were produced by Crucianelli, the Castelfidardo accordion-maker that pivoted to electric and semi-acoustic guitars during that decade, and these instruments carry an underlined italic capital "HALIFAX" logo.
A second wave of Halifax-branded guitars came out of Japan in the late 1960s and 1970s, covering acoustics, electrics, and basses typical of the Japanese export trade of the period. These pieces use a white, handwritten-style "Halifax" script on the headstock. The same distributor channel is also associated with the Lord brand, another of the many names placed on Japanese-built guitars during the so-called lawsuit era.
Halifax is not a continuing manufacturer with a modern catalog, and surviving instruments turn up mainly on the vintage market, where they appeal to collectors of MIJ and Italian-built guitars of the 1960s and 1970s.
