HG Fortune was the alias of German synthesist and software developer Günter Hager, who began releasing VST instruments for Windows in 2003 after a long history performing in electronic music projects such as Aldebaran and H2S+E. Built on SynthEdit, his plugins gravitated toward atmospheric, otherworldly, and science-fiction-tinged territory — pad and texture synths designed for soundscapes, drones, and arpeggiated sequences rather than conventional lead or bass duties.

The catalog spans roughly forty instruments, including the STS series (STS-17, STS-21, STS-26, STS-33), Alphatron, Astral Dreamer, Alien Space Weaver, ProtoPlasm, Avatar ST, AlioNoctis, Serenity Pro, Swamp XT, LaserBlade, Umbra, The Dream Machine, and X-Wheel of Fortune. Many titles paired oscillator stacks with step sequencers, modulation matrices, and SoundFont (SF2) playback, and the line was marketed in tiers running from free "NFG" (Nearly Forgotten Gems) editions up to paid Pro versions.

Hager passed away in 2014, after which the project's commercial activity ended. The plugins have since been preserved and circulated as freeware through community archives and a fan-maintained mirror of the original site, where the full collection remains downloadable.
