Hitachi is a Japanese multinational conglomerate founded in 1910 whose music-relevant output sits almost entirely in the vintage market. Through the 1970s and 1980s the company produced a broad line of home hi-fi components — integrated amplifiers, power amps and preamps such as the HMA-7500/HCA-7500 and HMA-6500/HCA-6500 pairs, cassette decks, tuners, turntables and speakers — that continue to trade on the used market. In Japan these higher-end hi-fi products were often marketed under the Lo-D sub-brand.

A separate subsidiary, Hitachi Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co., was established in Ibaraki in 1965 and built acoustic and electric guitars sold primarily under the Splendor name, with some models sourced from other Japanese factories including Kawai. These guitars date to the late-1960s Japanese MIJ boom and are uncommon outside of collector circles.

Hitachi does not operate as an active musical instrument or pro-audio manufacturer, and most appearances of the brand in studio and stage contexts today involve vintage pieces acquired secondhand rather than current production.

Hitachi has 3 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Power Amplifiers and Portable Recorders.
