J. Chester Amplification is a boutique amp builder based in Effingham, Illinois, founded by Jordan Chesnut. Chesnut trained at the Specimen Chicago School of Guitar Making before launching the business in 2012, driven by a quest for vintage tube tone he couldn't find in production amplifiers. Every J. Chester amp is hand-wired point-to-point using Mercury Magnetics transformers, Sprague and Orange Drop capacitors, and premium tubes, with each unit individually tuned by ear.
The core lineup is the JC Series, spanning from the 5-watt JC5 to the 50-watt JC50 in both 2x10 and 4x10 configurations. The JC15 — a 15-watt 6V6-powered 1x12 combo — is the company's best-selling model. Beyond the JC Series, J. Chester offers the Wave Walker (a 13-watt combo with built-in digital reverb, inspired by the band Citizen Way), the Brit (a 15-watt combo), the JC20 Stage Amp, and a 2N1 Bass Amp. The company also builds custom guitars tailored to individual players.
J. Chester amps have found a following among Nashville session players and touring musicians in the Christian rock and worship music scenes. Artists associated with the brand include Citizen Way, Tim Timmons, and Luke Sullivant, a guitarist and keyboardist who has toured with Kelly Clarkson, TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, and Danny Gokey.
