Kimball is an American piano and organ maker founded in Chicago in 1857 by William Wallace Kimball, originally as a dealership selling instruments from East Coast makers such as Chickering and Sons. The company began assembling reed organs in 1877 and started building its own pianos in 1887, recruiting craftsmen from Steinway & Sons and C. Bechstein to develop its manufacturing. By the early 20th century it had grown into one of the largest instrument producers in the world, manufacturing more than 400,000 reed organs before discontinuing that line in 1922, and producing pipe organs until 1942.

The firm was acquired by Jasper Corporation (later Kimball International) in 1959, and by 1969 had returned to a leading position in piano production, turning out roughly 100,000 pianos and organs a year at its peak. Kimball produced upright pianos, console and spinet pianos, grand pianos, and home electronic organs aimed largely at the American consumer market, and was particularly widespread across the Midwest. Its instruments are generally regarded as mid-tier consumer pianos rather than concert-grade builds. The Kimball piano and organ subsidiary ceased production in 1996, and Kimball-branded acoustic pianos and organs now circulate primarily on the secondhand market through dealers and platforms like Reverb and eBay.
