Larson Brothers Guitars traces back to Swedish immigrant luthiers Carl and August Larson, who built instruments in Chicago from 1900 to 1944 after taking over the Maurer workshop. They are credited as among the first builders to design flat-top guitars specifically for steel strings, and August patented innovations such as laminated bracing — thin strips of rosewood or ebony inserted within spruce braces — and the metal support rods used in their Prairie State models. The brothers rarely branded instruments with their own surname; their guitars were sold under labels including Maurer, Prairie State, Euphonon, Stahl, Dyer, Stetson, and Bruno, and are now considered highly collectible.
The Larson name was revived in 2007 when the rights were acquired by Toni Götz, who partnered with Czech luthier Roman Zajicek to build models based on the originals. The current operation is based in Kirchheim, Germany, and offers a line of acoustic guitars referencing the historic shapes and labels, including the New Era Masterbuilt Concert, Stahl OO Masterbuilt, Euphonon OOO Masterbuilt, Grand OM Masterbuilt, and a Round Shoulder Dreadnought.
